Table ordering: how it actually works
NFC and QR together, no compromises. The guest chooses, the system adapts. No app, no download, no friction.
NFC or QR? Both.
Each table has both an NFC tag and a printed QR code. The guest picks how to start: tap the phone on the tag (NFC, faster, works even in the dark), or scan the code (QR, universal fallback for old phones or disabled NFC).
NFC is the modern path: zero scan time, zero camera. iPhone XR or newer and all Androids from 2018 onwards support it natively, no app required. QR is the safety net: covers 100% of phones, including the few old ones without NFC.
Under the hood, it's the same URL. Switching modes is painless: no separate code path, no double customer flow. The physical tag follows the table — if you move table 7 to another room, the system follows the floor map.
Why no app
Four reasons
Guests don't want to install an app
Food-tech industry studies: install-our-app abandonment is 60–80%. A page opened from the browser has 92%+ order-completion rate.
Apps need to be maintained and certified
Apple App Store and Google Play have ongoing review cycles, developer account costs, compliance requirements. A web app is instantly updatable via deploy.
The browser already has everything
Payment (Apple Pay, Google Pay), notifications, geolocation, NFC reading, camera. In 2026 a PWA is a full app, but lighter and faster.
Cleaner privacy and entitlements
A web app doesn't ask for invasive permissions (contacts, photos, always-on location). The guest knows exactly what they're sharing: one click, one order, end of story.
